SUN'S CLIVE ROBERTSON & SARAH BUXTON Soap Dish, September 23, 1997

Clive Robertson and Sarah Buxton quickly became two of Sunset Beach's most popular actors after the show debuted at the beginning of this year. In their fascinating portrayals of the dark and mysterious Ben Evans and the conniving and calculating Annie Douglas , the actors have woven together two characters whose lives were forever changed by the mysterious death of Ben's wife, Maria. Now that Ben is avalible, Annie wants nothing more than to be with the handsome enterpenuer. However, his sights are set on the young nd vivacious Meg Cummings. Even though Ben and Meg are a hot couple, the chemistry between Ben and Annie can't be denied. Soap Dish spoke to Clive and Sarah on the set to chat about their characters and their friendship.

SD:Is there any chance of a romance for Ben and Annie? Sarah: Come on, Clive, is there? Clive: Annie definatly thinks so. I don't think there is any on Ben's part, but Ben is a bit confused.

Sarah: I think there is a chance at this point, because Ben is getting weak and Annie is Manipulating. Clive: His defenses are low. Sarah: And Annie is using their friendship to do a number.

Clive: It actually frightens me how manipulative Annie is.

SD: Clive, How would you describe Annie?

Clive: I'd describe her as sexy and feisty.

Sarah: But that's not good enough for you, is it?

 Clive: No, it's not.

SD: Sarah, how would you describe Ben?

Sarah: Ben has lost his sense of humour, but is still sexy and sophisticated. He's still a good friend to Annie, but he just dwells on memories, which take him to the depths of darkness. He's emotionally shut off.

Clive: I think Ben is on a brink of something and you never know what could happen. He definatly finds Annie attractive, I would say.

SD: Why can't you go with that?

Clive: I think because he's worried where this might take him. There are some things in his past that seem to egt in the way, and Annie reminds him too much of that. Annie reminds him of someone he could get trapped with-trapped or maybe get hurt by. She has that power. It's a posibility for him.

Sarah A dangerous possibility. He doesn't want anyomre danger. That's why he goes for sweet Meg. He can control Meg, but he can't cotrol Annie.

Clive: Right. It's a dangerous possiblility and he doesn't want to got there. Maria was probarbly much more like Annie, maybe even more so. Maybe he wary of her and knows it because Annie is the sort of girl who when she gets hold on someone, she spurns them and pushes them off the edge (laughs). He knows her so well, and he's aware of the fact that he has a dark side.

SD: So, will the mystery deepen?

 Clive:Oh, yeah.

Sarah: Ben weakens more and more. Clive: Yes, so there must be something there or he wouldn't even go there at all..

Sarah: And when he goes there, it's pretty passionate.

SD: You didn't know each other before the show. Did you become fast friends?

Sarah:Yes, we're buddies and like each other. We like working together.

SD: Whats that like? Clive: Actually, we haven't been working together as often as we used to because Annie has been involved in things with Tim and Ben is with Meg a lot. But we did go away together recently and that was a lot of fun.

Sarah: Clive and I get along well together.

Clive: We did a publicity thing for the show in Israel. It was work, so we didn't have time to do anything else.

Sarah: One day we went to Jerusalem, but we worked there, too.

SD: Do you hang out together off the set?

Sarah: Yeah. Actually we run into each other everywhere.

Clive: We always end up going to the same restaurants. When we first started working, the first week I ran into Sarah everywhere. Literally everywhere I went there was Sarah.

Sarah: And Clive was Saying that he'd never been to any of these places in his life.

Clive: Right, it was a riot, because I hadn't been there, but there she was. She told me that I was always in the right places. It was funny. Sarah just kept saying that I'd just come to Los Angeles, so how did I know where to go?

Sarah: Yeah, I hope when I arrive in a city and don't know anyone, I go to the most trendy, cool spots (laughs).

SD: Who on the show do you watch and learn from?

Sarah: Sam Behrens.

Clive: He is the king of daytime.

Sarah: I always say that Sam teaches at the Tag school of America (laughs). He is the best and funniest at doing the tags at the end of a scence. The way he does them cracks me up. We can't really say what they are, but he's the best. Also, Peter Barton is great. He can look at his lines once and know them. He's been in daytime for a long time. I can't believe how good he is with lines. Daytime teaches you to have a good memory.

Clive: That's true, but you're good at that Sarah.

SD: Both of you are new to daytime. How did you find the adjustment to the pace of the soap?

Sarah: It was hard. Like at the Emmys, they were talking about how the people from "Rent" wrote the song about 356 days a year and that's what it is. it's a 356-days-a-year joband 24 hours a day. it's unbelievable. You finish the day's work, go home and prepare for the day's work. It's hard. SD: Has it become less difficult?

 Sarah: Definatly.

Clive: When I first started the show I didn't think I would have time for anything but learning my lines for the next time, but it's become easier. Maybe I'm deluding myself, because I have more lines with my scences with Meg. When I'm with Sarah, it's different. I say, yeah.

Sarah: Bye Annie...

Clive: Annie, no!

Sarah: He says that a lot.

Clive: I can't do this Annie.

Sarah: Bad Annie (laughs)

Clive: We are not going to do anything, Annie.

Sarah: Anathin and Mariar, (she says with a laugh in Clive's English accent). We have this joke about Maria. We call her "my rear," because that's how it comes out with Clive's accent. When he says her name it sounds like "my rear".

SD: So what can we look forward too with Ben and Annie? Sarah: Oh, there is some spicy stuff coming up.

Clive: It's pretty spicy. Sarah: Steamy, steamy, spicy stuff. Let's just say that Annie gets in the way a little bit.
